NEHI - New England Harmonica Intensive

Sep. 21-23, Newburyport, MA

Registration is officially closed for the September 21-23 workshop. We will keep you posted about future events!

Master Harmonica teachers Annie Raines and Ronnie Shellist team up with country blues master Paul Rishell and blues guitar veteran Nick Adams for NEHI - the New England Harmonica Intensive! They’ll be joined by John Shirley and Jason Novak to host a full weekend of classes, interactive workshops, jams, concerts, and delicious food from favorite local eateries Blue Ribbon BBQ and Bob Lobster. It will all take place on the grounds of a Victorian estate and carriage house in beautiful Newburyport, MA. This is a chance to learn new techniques, expand your repertoire and connect with people in the harmonica community. We hope you will join us for this very special event.

GUITARISTS WELCOME! Guitar students can register as well to sign up for select classes and private lessons in country blues or Chicago blues guitar with Paul Rishell or Nick Adams. There will be time spent on guitar-harmonica ensemble playing, so the weekend will be a chance to up your duo game. If you play both harmonica and guitar, you can study both instruments during the weekend for no extra charge.

NEHI 2018 features 8-10 hours of multiple class offerings, covering playing and soloing techniques, repertoire, blues history, and performance skills. With a maximum of 35 harp students in the entire workshop, small group classes will give you a chance to focus on your goals. A schedule is posted here. Subjects taught include: bending and tongue-blocking techniques, special focus on blues masters such as Little Walter and Sonny Boy I, reading tab on chromatic, phrasing, rhythms and basslines and creating a groove. There will also be listening sessions, a Saturday night faculty concert, and an open mic. All levels are welcome, though you will get more out of the classes if you are beyond beginning.
